JAMES
E. ABBOTT
received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1995 and his law degree from Chicago Kent College of Law in 1998, where he was a Notes & Comments Editor on the Law Review (1997-1998) and also a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Milton I. Shadur (1997). He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Mr. Abbott practices in a wide variety of general commercial litigation and trial settings, including products liability, toxic torts, medical malpractice, professional and executive liability, construction, labor and employment, and municipal law, in Illinois state courts and Federal Court. He has successfully represented clients in jury trials and has litigated toxic tort cases in several states, including Illinois, California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
Mr. Abbott is the author of Product Liability Defense: Keys to Success, Inside the Minds, Product Liability Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Aspatore Books, 2007, 7-30. He also assisted with the preparation of a case study called You Be The Judge, OB-GYN Malpractice Prevention, July 2004, Vol. 11, No. 7, 53-5, regarding a defense verdict in Strino v. Lindemulder, 00 L 15138, which he successfully co-tried in Cook County, Illinois. He has also lectured on various topics in toxic tort matters, medical malpractice, and general liability. In October 2008 he spoke at a seminar by Employer Resource Institute on Illinois Employment Law Updates on the topic “Bullying in the Workplace and Retaliatory Discharge Claims.” Mr. Abbott is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute.
