M. CRAWFORD
is a partner with the law firm of Litchfield Cavo. His practice focuses solely on commercial and civil litigation in state and federal courts across
the country. Mr. Crawford defends and has defended companies in a broad range of asbestos, commercial auto, personal injury, real estate, construction and environmental suits. Mr. Crawford also has an extensive practice in representing insurance companies in a broad range of insurance coverage matters involving all types of policies.
Before joining Litchfield Cavo in 1999, Mr. Crawford was Claims Counsel for CNA Insurance Company in which he provided strategic legal and corporate oversight on claims with an exposure of $5 million or more. The exposures included those to CNA directly arising out declaratory judgment actions involving coverage or bad faith or to its insureds in personal injury suits involving environmental, mass torts (including asbestos, blood factorates, tobacco, breast implants, fen-phen, Viagra, EMFs, lead, repetitive stress injuries and latex gloves). His in-house experience also includes oversight and strategic analysis of claims involving professional malpractice, employment practices, indoor air quality, managed care organizations, reinsurance, advertising injury, e-commerce and extracontractual liability risks. Mr. Crawford has been a Vice-Chair of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association’s Torts and Insurance Practice Section. Mr. Crawford has presented on numerous occasions on coverage issues, asbestos litigation, internet issues and employment matters.
Mr. Crawford also served honorably in the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), United States Army from 1982 to 1985. Mr. Crawford received his Bachelor of Science in 1989 from The University of Iowa, his Juris Doctorate (cum laude) in 1992 from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and his Letter of Law Masters in 1993 in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the bars of the States of Illinois, Iowa, and Maryland, the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, the Seventh and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeals and the District Court of Maryland.
