LAURA BECKMAN HEDGE
Laura focuses her practice on complex commercial
litigation matters, with an emphasis in litigation involving construction
defect, personal injury defense, premises liability, and products
liability as well as executive and professional liability and
employment. She has represented commercial clients in state and
federal court and in arbitration. Laura’s background also
includes experience in the areas of oil and gas litigation, toxic
tort litigation, appeals, and trademark infringement.
In addition to her experience in private practice,
Laura has worked in the public and corporate sector, working for
Shell Oil Company from 1994 to 1998 and then serving as an Assistant
City Attorney in the Business Litigation Division for the City
of Houston from 1998 to 2002. As Assistant City Attorney, she
represented Houston, its employees, and officials in complex business
litigation matters and also defended the City’s Code of
Ordinances, handled temporary injunction hearings, drafted state
legislation impacting all Texas municipalities, as well as assisting
other City department heads with drafting and negotiation of contracts.
Laura was listed in 2004, 2006, and 2007 as
a Texas Rising Star, a designation earned by only 2.5 percent
of lawyers in the state, and was featured in Super Lawyers
and Texas Monthly publications.
Laura also co-authored the Junior Judges
Curriculum Guide, a Texas Young Lawyers Association program designed
to help elementary age children make good choices. It is also
designed to inform children of potential consequences which they
and their families may face if they make the wrong decisions.
The curriculum covers cheating, property destruction, teasing,
bullying, stealing, weapons & gangs, and drug & alcohol.
