PETER J. PONZIANI
attended Georgetown University where he graduated magna cum laude
in 1975 with honors in economics. He received his law degree from
the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1978. Shortly after
graduation, Mr. Ponziani was appointed to the State’s Attorney’s
Office for the State of Connecticut.
Mr. Ponziani worked as a Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney
and then as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the State’s
Attorney’s Office in the Hartford Judicial District where
he prosecuted and tried numerous misdemeanor and felony cases.
Mr. Ponziani successfully prosecuted one of the first cases to
be presented under what was then a new statute entitled "manslaughter
in the second degree with a motor vehicle." In 1985, Mr.
Ponziani joined a Hartford law firm where he specialized in defending
a number of insurance companies and their insureds, self-insured
corporations and municipalities in various types of litigation
including products liability, toxic tort, construction, premises
liability, civil rights, automobile accident and uninsured motorist
claims.
He has been admitted to practice law in the State of Connecticut
and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut
and has argued numerous cases before the Connecticut Supreme Court
including Springdale Donuts, Inc. v. Aetna Casualty and Surety
Co. of Illinois, in which Mr. Ponziani successfully argued that
claims of sexual harassment and sexual discrimination in the workplace
were not covered by the Aetna’s Workers’ Compensation
policy.
Mr. Ponziani has continued these practice concentrations upon
joining Litchfield Cavo LLP in 2001. He is a resident partner
in Litchfield Cavo LLP’s Greater Hartford office.
