California Partner Prevails in Civil Jury Trial Multi-Vehicle Collision Case

Los Angeles-area Partner Daniel Ip recently prevailed on behalf of our trucking company client and its driver in the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County in a case involving a multi-vehicle collision and Plaintiff’s alleged traumatic brain injury.

In November 2021, our client was driving a semi-truck and trailer on a four-lane highway in Los Angeles when another individual driving on this highway made an unsafe lane change that initiated a five-vehicle chain reaction collision. Following the incident, Plaintiff, an individual who was driving one of the vehicles involved in the collision, claimed he suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the accident. Subsequently, Plaintiff filed suit against our client, among other defendants, for their personal injury, and his spouse also filed suit for loss of consortium.

At trial, Litchfield Cavo defense attorney Daniel Ip disputed liability and argued that our client was not responsible for the collision. Our Partner also presented noteworthy examples of Plaintiff’s malingering during cross-examination, highlighting contradictions in his statements, in addition to receiving significant advantages on the cross-examination of Plaintiff’s experts. Throughout trial, several experts testified on various aspects of the case, including professionals in the fields of biomechanics, accident reconstruction, economics, neurology and neuropsychology.

In October 2025, after one hour of deliberation, the jury returned a defense verdict and found no negligence on behalf of our client.

Daniel focuses his legal practice on civil litigation matters, including personal injury and wrongful death claims. Daniel also has experience defending landlords and homeowner’s associations, and has experience representing clients in real-estate matters.
