Edwin focuses his practice on insurance defense, including but not limited to general liability and premise liability matters. He is experienced in handling asylum-based claims/applications for victims of human rights abuses, as well as victims of domestic violence and individuals with disabilities. Edwin has appeared before the Department of Justice’s Immigration Court in a number of cases, and before the Asylum Office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS.) He also has experience in Estate planning, including but not limited to counseling of clients, drafting of wills, powers of attorney, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) releases, medical powers of attorney, living wills and medical and mental health care advanced directives.
Prior to joining Litchfield Cavo LLP, Edwin worked in both the private and nonprofit legal sectors. He has experience as a litigation attorney for one of the largest personal injury firms in the State of Texas. Before transitioning into the private legal sector, Edwin has served in various nonprofit roles where he gained experience responding to natural and manmade disasters and advocating on legal issues affecting individuals with disabilities and underserved communities.
Edwin’s represents clients in federal, state and administrative law matters through litigation, negotiation and settlement. His experience spans all phases of case management, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediation, trial and appeals. Edwin has also handled appellate matters involving Social Security benefits, asylum claims, Medicaid services and family law.
In addition to his law practice, Edwin serves as a Direct Commissioned Officer in the Texas State Guard as a Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) Officer with the 1st Brigade, 4th Battalion Headquarters Company. His service includes military legal support, personnel matters and disaster response training.
