Phoenix Attorney Attends Keeneland September Yearling Sale

Litchfield Cavo attorney Jordan A. Willette attended the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale held in Lexington, Kentucky on September 9-22. As a guest of Taylor Made Sales Agency, Jordan was able to witness buyers’ behaviors during the sales of Book 1 and Book 2 horses, the excitement of the auction ring and liabilities of trucking companies due to rules stating that equine ownership changes hands as the gavel falls.

Located in the horse capital of the worldKeeneland is an internationally renowned racecourse and the world’s largest and most prominent Thoroughbred auction house. Owners, trainers, riders and fans from all over the world travel to Lexington each year to participate at the Keeneland yearling sales.

Jordan also was invited to visit the Taylor Made Farms to further her industry knowledge on topics such as buying, selling, boarding, racing syndicates and contractual breeding rights of sport horses. Taylor Made is a world-wide leader in public auction sales and the only agency in history to raise and/or consign 100 G1 winners. Their roster of stallions include two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome, Daddy Long Legs, Midnight Storm, Mshawish and Not This Time.

While in Lexington, Jordan visited Rood & Riddle, a full-service equine hospital where she was invited for a private tour of the surgical suites, operating recovery and treatment rooms, internal medicine facility that houses ICU, neonatal and respiratory for critical care, equine podiatry center that offers digital radiography, MRI diagnostics and corrective shoeing, and reproduction complex and breeding shed. She also learned of their ambulatory services and alternative therapies, wellness, radiography and sport horse care.

Jordan is not only an experienced attorney, she is an avid horse enthusiast, rider and former reining competitor. She focuses her practice in civil litigation, including personal injury, premises liability, business disputes and equine law. She is also the fundraising chair for Horses Help, a therapeutic riding organization for children with disabilities.
