Illinois Partner to Present at Insurance Board on Removing Hazards of Slips, Trips & Falls
Chicago partner James E. Abbott will present “Removing Hazards On Church Property and Protecting Your Congregation From Slips, Trips & Falls”, an online webinar hosted by the Insurance Board on Thursday, August 12. Jim will be joined by the organization’s director of claims administration, Cy McFarlin, and senior claims analyst, Monroe Moore.
During the webinar, Jim will discuss the many potential hazards that congregants face, including risks that are potentially life changing and, thus, most impactful on their ministries. Jim will examine a multitude of premises liability dangers including steps and stair wells, slippery parking lots and wet surfaces, walkways and sidewalks in disrepair, and transitions from carpet to vinyl or tile. Webinar attendees will leave with many considerations to then implement a safer physical environment for their congregation and provide a safer place for people to gather and worship.
The Insurance Board is a nonprofit corporation that writes church property insurance and church liability insurance in all 50 states and utilizes an independent distribution system that is conducive of their mission to support and protect churches and church ministries.

He frequently takes on difficult but topical cases that garner media attention, such as opioid litigation as well as cases alleging negligence and abuse in churches, nonprofit and youth organizations. He also defends clients in catastrophic injury and wrongful death actions, often requiring Jim to appear late in high exposure cases after settlement negotiations have failed. Jim handles class action defense and represents businesses in retaliatory discharge and discrimination actions.
