Mike is a founding partner of the Firm’s Kansas City, Missouri office. He has extensive experience with contracts, risk management and business litigation, and has served as an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Kansas City continuing education (CE) instructor to designers, architects and engineers on construction project and administration topics. His involvement with the AIA Kansas City provides Mike unique perspective when handling files and managing clients’ cases.
Mike uses his vast contract drafting and interpretation experience to counsel corporate clients on transactional work, and review and analyze their contracts. His clients comprise architects, engineers, contractors and insurance brokers for which he handles a range of business matters, from breach of construction contracts to insurance coverage disputes. Mike also advises corporate entities on licensing issues, employment issues, business formation and ownership, and professional liability. His representative experience includes an ENR Top 20 contractor.
Mike’s first focus is preventing litigation through appropriate risk management and exercising thoughtful negotiations. Though, when problems arise or loss has occurred, his extensive jury trial experience is invaluable for achieving favorable results for his clients, including prevailing on counterclaims for fees and expenses. In addition to his law practice, Mike is an authorized CE instructor and has presented and instructed agents, adjusters and lawyers on insurance and coverage-related topics.
